Open the Windows of Heaven, the Cup of Blessings Overflows Memorization Verses: Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.” (Mal 3:10) 1. Offering that is acceptable to God: open the windows of heaven and the cup of blessings overflows a. The request(s) of God: Need to care about what God wants [Old Testament] Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.” (Mal 3:10) [New Testament] “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. (Matt 23:23) b. What God cares about: Making the wise choices [Secrets to blessings] “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” says the LORD of hosts; 12 “And all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land,” says the LORD of hosts. (Mal 3:11-12) [Losing the blessings of God] “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed Me, even this whole nation. (Mal 3:8-9) 7 Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Consider your ways! … 9 “You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the LORD of hosts. “Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house. 10 Therefore the heavens above you withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit. 11 For I called for a drought on the land and the mountains, on the grain and the new wine and the oil, on whatever the ground brings forth, on men and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.” (Hag 1:7-11) 2. The motivation to offerings a. The sovereignty of God But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, and ]of Your own we have given You. …17 I know also, my God, that You test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things; and now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here to offer willingly to You. 18 O LORD God … keep this forever in the intent of the thoughts of the heart of Your people, and fix their heart toward You. (1 Chron 29:14-18) 16 For by Him all things were created … All things were created through Him and for Him. (Col 1:16) 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify … (1 Cor 6:20) b. Compelled by the love of the Lord 14 For the love of Christ compels us …15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. (2 Cor 5:14-15) c. Overcoming the deception of riches and freed from the control of mammon 24 “No one can serve two masters; … You cannot serve God and mammon. (Matt 6:24) 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 John 2:15) 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. (Matt 13:22) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matt 6:21) 3. Offerings that are according to God’s heart a. Willingness (2 Cor 8:12,9:7) b. With all of our hearts (Matt 22,37-38; Mark 22:30; 1 John 3:21-22) c. By faith (2 Cor 1:20; Mark 9:23; Phil 4:19) 4. Examples is the Scriptures (building of the tabernacle and temple, five loaves and two fish, Mary’s alabaster jar, the widow’s mite)
