以色列王伊施波设在家中遭到暗杀，以色列众支派就来到希伯伦见大卫，归顺大卫，膏大卫做全以色列的王。他们打算定都耶路撒冷，只是那个时候，耶路撒冷正被耶布斯人占据。于是，大卫下令，攻打耶布斯。
